There are several types of therapy within the Thermal Stone category. The two most common are Hot Stone Massage and LaStone Therapy. The former, as the name suggests, is a massage with hot / warm stones only, wheareas the latter uses both hot and cold stones, as part of the treament.
The physiological benefits of alternating hot and cold to the body have long been scientifically proven. Thermal StoneTherapy capitalizes on this traditional practice with a new approach. River smooth stones are heated in water and carved marble stones are chilled. Some stones are carefully placed under the clients back so they are working on the back muscles while other stones are placed on the chakras on the client's front and are working energetically. Then the client's face, head, arms and legs are massaged with the oiled stones. When the stones are removed, the client turns over so that the back is massaged with the stones.
The treatment is deeply relaxing. The stones are gentle and smooth but, can give a deeper massage, stretching and warming tense and painful muscles. By alternating between hot and cold stones the circulation is dramatically increased bringing fresh blood into tissues and joints, speeding up the process of elimination.
